CSR‑1 Registration

Register your NGO as a CSR implementing agency under Form CSR‑1
(as mandated by Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013 & Companies (CSR Policy) Rules, 2014)

What is CSR‑1 Registration?

Under the Companies Act, 2013 (Section 135) and the Companies (Corporate Social Responsibility Policy) Rules, 2014, every company meeting specified net worth, turnover, or profit thresholds is required to spend a minimum percentage of its profits on CSR activities. To ensure transparency and proper channelling of these CSR funds, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) introduced Form CSR‑1. Through this form, an NGO or trust that intends to act as an implementing agency for CSR projects must register with the MCA and obtain a unique CSR Registration Number. This is mandatory before any company can disburse CSR funds to such an organisation.

Key Provisions

  • Mandatory for NGOs seeking to receive CSR funds from companies (effective from April 2021).
  • Electronic filing of Form CSR‑1 on the MCA portal.
  • The form is simple and requires details of the NGO, its Directors/Trustees, and the CSR activities proposed.
  • Once filed, the MCA issues a CSR Registration Number that is valid for a specified period.
  • Helps companies identify eligible CSR implementation agencies.

Documents Required

  • Registration certificate of the NGO (trust deed / society registration / section 8 company).
  • PAN card of the NGO.
  • Details of the Board of Directors/Managing Committee/Trustees.
  • Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) of the authorised signatory.
  • Brief description of past CSR or social activities (if any).
